High Speed railway station and surroundings, Bolzano

PROJECT REPORT

TThe Bolzano railway zone is a great urban void that radically divides two adjacent areas with very different characteristics: the old town to the north, and the Piani neighbourhood to the south.

The central hub is the existing train station where all public and private transport systems come together, the main cause of traffic congestion in these areas.

The main goal is that, through the modification of this central point, by transforming the existing station into a true urban interchange that brings together trains, urban and interurban buses, trams, taxis and parking areas, a new connection with the southern zone will be developed. The new connection would not end at the contest area perimeter, but could expand to the Isarco River in the future.

To achieve this objective a great green space is defined; it can act as an organising element for the new urban spaces as much as for existing ones. Its central position allows the new relationship between the two parts of the city to thus be established.
