City Hall Department of Buildings, Seville

PROJECT REPORT

For one reason or another, all the buildings in this area exhibit a great formal ambition: the effect of the Universal Exposition dominates a large part of the right-hand side of the dock, and not always successfully. In the light of all this extravagance, this proposal is a more muted solution, concentrating in its interior all the formal richness which is denied without.

During the day, the ground floor is open to the four perimeter streets, becoming an open public space (it would be tempting to use the word “square”) for the most affluent uses and where citizens can access any information they need. Prior to this, visitors will pass through the gardens and courtyards to access the higher floors, reserved for office space.

Each courtyard will follow a different gardening style, with different coloured flowers in each, bringing a pleasant atmosphere to the interior and helping orient visitors to the building.

The building perimeter will only be modified at the northeastern corner, where the layout of the street allows this, with views over the historical city. This defines the spaces of the office floors and creates a singular exhibition space on the ground floor.
